We rented a little house on Snow Lake in Indian River for July 4th week. We wanted to take the dogs with us on vacation for a change. We thought it would be a nice change of pace to just relax, hike with the dogs and do not much of anything.
The house was more of a camp but it was comfortable and we didn’t have to worry about the dogs wrecking anything. It had a fully outfitted kitchen, two bedrooms and a loft with an extra bed. The house was like being in a fishbowl, floor to ceiling windows in the bedroom on three walls and in the kitchen/dining area. Snow Lake was tiny and peaceful with no motorized water craft allowed. The rental came with a two person kayak, canoe and single person kayak. It was a perfect little getaway in our beloved ADK.
We spent a peaceful couple first days hanging out with the dogs by the water, walking around the private Snow Lake community and resting. Molly got to enjoy the lake and chased ball after ball into the water. Buster who LOVES fetch was not interested in chasing any balls into the water. He couldn’t understand why we didn’t throw them up on land. When the ball would land in my or Joe’s lap Buster would head up the path to the house looking over his shoulder, tongue hanging out to see where the ball would go. With rare exception we threw the ball into the water and he was perplexed. Why would anyone want to leap into the water and chase a ball?
At one point Buster was walking on the dock past Joe and Joe nudged him into the water. He paddled back to shore and didn’t seem to mind at all. He never held a grudge against Joe about it and still squeezed past him on the dock to get to the end. He just wasn’t going in the water of his own accord. I thought for sure he’d be jumping off that dock by the end of the week to chase a ball but he never did.
